Why Should We Go To Mass?

Some Sunday morning we all have probably asked ourselves that question. Here are a few points to consider.

.) Because Jesus asks us to go when at the Last Supper he said, “Do this in memory of Me.”

.) Because we need to hear God’s Word and keep it before our minds weekly to withstand the onslaught of the millions of this world’s words, many of which are opposed to God’s plan for us.

.)  Because we believe the Mass includes the Sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, made present in an unbloody manner - the Sacrifice that saves us from our sins.

.) Because at every Mass, Jesus generously applies the infinite graces merited by His Death on the cross to those who participate at Mass and to those who are prayed for at Mass.

.) Because Jesus Himself, body and blood, soul and divinity, comes to nourish us with Himself as Holy Communion.

.) Because God wants us to enjoy one day of rest each week (the Sabbath Day) especially to remember God , to thank Him and to be “recreated”. (Commandment #3: Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day).

.) Because God who has given us another week of life deserves our thanksgiving (the word “Eucharist” means “to give thanks”).

.) Because it is our privilege and our duty to express our worship and adoration of the one true God.

.) Because we want to grow in holiness, the universal call of all those baptized.

.) Because as a community and individually we come to ask God’s help through our prayers of petition.

.) Because we are sinful and desire God’s mercy (Ask and you shall receive).

.) Because we want to strengthen our faith, deepen our hope, fortify our ability to love even the least loveable.

.)Because we love God and want to express our love in the way God asks.

.) Because we want to instill in our children an abiding love for God, the need to pray, the habit of putting God first, that nothing else, (not sports, not sleeping in, not a job to earn a few bucks) is more important than God. God is priority #1.

.) Because we belong to a family of fellow believers who share our values and beliefs and whom we want to spiritually support and whose company we enjoy..
