Introducing St. Thomas
We are a Catholic faith community of 1,045 families serving the west side of Freeport, Illinois. Like Freeport, St. Thomas is a stable, close knit community. You will find us a warm, caring and welcoming.
Spiritual Life
As a Catholic community our spiritual life centers on the Eucharist. In addition to our weekend and daily Mass schedule, Eucharistic Adoration is offered every day in our chapel. Our liturgies are music filled and there is an opportunity for all to participate in our choirs.Holy Rosary is offered each morning before our weekday Mass at 8:00 am.
Community Life
We offer activities for all ages. For families there is our annual picnic, pool party and Trunk-or-Treat and caroling. A Parents-n-Tots play group meets weekly at the church. For retirees, there is there is the STAR (St Thomas Active Retirees) group that plans trip and other get togethers for our senior parishioners.
Education
Freeport has a Catholic school system for grades K -12. In addition, our parish offers religious education for the same grades and special sacramental preparation programs. Our adult Bible Study groups meets on Monday evenings except in the summer.
Christian Service
Our parish is an active supporter of programs that serve the needy in our community, country and the world. Our parishioners work at the Freeport Area Church Cooperative that provides a variety of services and Public Action to Deliver Shelter that provides shelter for the homeless. Each year we sponsor Appalachian Service Week that sends workers from this area to the poorest parts of Appalachia to do home repair. The Freeport Area Service Project provides similar help for families in this area. Through the year we participate or sponsor programs such as the Bottle Exchange that support our local pregnancy center, the CROP Walk that fights world hunger and SERV Craft Sale that market third world products helping people to help themselves. Our 5% parish tithe goes to help those in need around the world.
